“Kimo Camat pours new life into each song…” - Oregon Live

Kimo is a Portland born performer who studied Drama & Theatre at University of Portland. Drawing inspiration from genres ranging from retro pop, classic soul, neo funk, and a dash of musical theatre, Kimo credits his love of music to Sam Cooke and Roberta Flack.

Having performed on stages all across the west coast for the past 17 years, Kimo has developed a true love of story telling through various mediums - his favorite being through song. Kimo is the recipient of the 2023 Regional Arts and Culture Council ArtsC3 Grant* for Kiki’s Delivery Service of Love Songs and Heartbreak. The KIKI Series are labors of love/theatrical cabaret-styled shows about finding love, loving our little meat fleshes, and about understanding what self love is. The purpose of the KIKI Series is to open up conversations that may have been taboo growing up or are seen as uncomfortable conversations. They are created by, for, and are about the larger queer community and some of the hardships we face trying to embrace our truest self. While these shows have plenty of queer coded themes, the Kiki Series hones in on universal truths and has had audiences raving about each show.

Kimo is no stranger to the musical theatre scene as he gears up to tackle The Voice of The Plant/Audrey II again in Triangle Productions’ take on Little Shop of Horrors this winter. Some of his favorite past roles include Tommy Haw in Bella: An American Tall Tale [Portland Playhouse], Snoopy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown [Broadway Rose Theater], and Rosie in Cabaret [Fuse Theatre Ensemble]. He has also tread the boards of Portland Center Stage, Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Northwest Children’s Theatre, and many more. Along with musical collaborator and music director, Mak Kastelic, Kimo has started a new afternoon piano bar of sorts called Kiki’s Café - the duo is partnering with Flour Bloom, a local retro themed coffee shop, to feature three local artists each month to showcase their artistry through song.

Press Quotes

“Each cast member creates a thoroughly memorable character, but there are a few real standout moments.  First among equals is Kimo Camat’s “Snoopy” – he commits 100% to his canine identity, with all of the shaking, wiggling, howling, scratching, yawning physical comedy you could want from America’s favorite (if slightly delusional) beagle.  His vocals are flawless, but his pièce de résistance is the increasingly frenetic choreography (with “Sally”) of “Rabbit Chasing.”

“An amazing talent - an amazing vocal talent!! What a moving voice! ”

— Emily Burris & Travis Teich, KOIN 6

“Cole, Crystal and Camat, as the masters of ceremony for these proceedings, are all at the top of their game.  They, and the rest of the cast, have powerful voices that can barely be contained within these fragile walls.”
